What's been happening?

Well, it has been a while since we (we, Sarah has only managed one post in over a year!) posted.

Sarah surprised me with a ticket to the British Grand Prix, what's more she even booked me the Friday off work - what a Star.

It was all a bit last minute so despite frantic searching on the web we were unable to find anywhere to stay. Plan B buy a bigger tent and camp, this was a bit rushed but we managed to find a tent we agreed on that would deliver on time.

The tent duly arrived and we managed to squeeze every thing into the car. It is amazing how much room a mealy bug takes up. Good job the car has a large boot. We eventually set off after spending hours getting ready. The campsite was in Bicester wit
hin easy reach of Silverstone and not booked up, and also had a good supply of local attractions to keep Sarah amused. This was the first time that either of us had done none festival camping for quite a while, what a pleasant surprise.

The Grand Prix was fantastic. I took some ear plugs, just in case it was too loud, but if the worlds best engine manufacturers have worked so hard on a mechanical symphony who am I to block it out?

I borrowed Sarah's digital camera aiming to take a some good photographs. This was incredibly hard. I was using a Sigma 600mm manual focus lens (The EOS 300D effectively multiplies the focal length by 1.6 ). This gave a good image size but was a challenge avoiding camera shake even on a mono pod. It was very difficult tracking the cars, with them moving so fast and also quite an art pressing the shutter release just before they arrive at the point the lens was pre focused on. Most of the images ended up in the recycling bin (although the looked fine on the camera's preview screen). The ones that did not are here and here on Flickr.
